Munster Alvern
Solar park with battery storage in Munster-Alvern: 3,091.9 kWp from two construction phases, storage with 6,687 kWh and 3,343 kW, extension applied for.

Solar park with battery storage: 3,092 kWp in Munster-Alvern

A solar park with a battery storage system can then feed its electricity when it is needed – instead of always when the sun is shining. In Munster-Alvern in the Niedersachsen district of Heidekreis, we have a free-standing system with 3,091.9 kWp and one Storage with 6,687 kWh realized.

Project at a glance

  • 3,091.9 kWp from two construction phases
  • Battery storage with a capacity of 6,687 kWh and a power output of 3,343 kW
  • Extension to 7,520 kWh applied to the network operator
  • City of Munster, district of Heidekreis, Lower Saxony
  • Own planning permission: Development plan No. 99 „Freiflächen-Photovoltaikanlage Alvern“
  • Network: EWE Netz and Stadtwerke Munster

Why a solar park with a battery storage system

Without storage, a free-standing system delivers its power concentrated around midday – exactly when all the other systems are doing the same thing. Solar farm with battery storage Uncoupling generation and feed-in: The electricity is stored in reserve and then delivered when the grid can absorb it.

In Munster-Alvern, the storage facility is located with 6,687 kWh at 3,343 kW Designed – that is, around two hours of full load. This design is typical for projects that are intended to smooth out peak production levels without over-sizing the park. The extension to 7,520 kWh has been applied for.

From the area to the planning of construction

The project was not created on a fully landscaped area. The city of Munster has provided the land for this purpose. Development plan No. 99 Special building regulations were created. The procedure included, among other things, a technical contribution on nature conservation and a report on glare protection.

The park was realized in two construction phases. This arrangement allows the first section to be installed while the second is still being built.

Mains connection

The feed runs via the network of EWE Netz and the Stadtwerke Munster. In the case of storage parks, the grid connection is the most demanding part: it must simultaneously represent generation and storage capacity, and the regulation of both components must work in a grid-compliant manner.

Each facility is publicly registered

Solar park with battery storage also means reporting obligations: Every generation facility is registered. Market data register of the Federal Network Agency. We will take over the registration as part of the project.

Medium-voltage technology from Faber E-Tec

For the network connection, he supplied Faber E-Tec from within the company’s own group, a transformer station with 3,150 kVA and the transfer station. Both components are manufactured in-house, thus perfectly matching the plant’s design.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the target. In Munster-Alvern, 3,091.9 kWp of generation is matched by a storage system with 6,687 kWh at 3,343 kW – around two hours of full load. Those who want to smooth out peak production are usually in this range; for trading on the electricity market, longer periods are planned.

kWh is the capacity, i.e. how much energy the storage system absorbs. kW is the power, i.e. how fast it charges and discharges. In Munster-Alvern it is 6,687 kWh at 3,343 kW. Both values are always mentioned together.

Often yes. For Munster-Alvern, the city of Munster has specifically created building regulations for the „Freiflächen-Photovoltaikanlage Alvern“ development plan No. 99. This includes a regular technical report on nature conservation and a glare protection report.

Because the first section can be fed while work is still being carried out on the second one. Munster-Alvern was built in two construction phases, which significantly reduces the time until the first yield is achieved.

Basically, yes, if the grid connection supports the additional power. For Munster-Alvern, the extension from 6,687 to 7,520 kWh has been applied for with the grid operator. The review always takes place through the grid operator.
